The Board of Christian Growth is excited to announce that St. Paul’s will be a screening site for a feature film being distributed by 20th Century Fox called I Am. I AM is a movie that shows the heart of God for His people. I AM is the Biblical name of God, and the title character of a film in which God aids ten people in Los Angeles as they struggle with the effects of failing to follow the Ten Commandments in the modern day. I Am is most often described as a “Christian Crash.” Please watch for more information throughout September. See www.iamthemovie.com for more information about the film. Please take advantage of the opportunity for an enjoyable and affordable evening at the movies!

Events listed are for members and non-members. Please feel free to bring a guest (or many guests, the more the merrier!) to share in the fellowship.

Strengthening the Strands:
A Marriage Enrichment Retreat

Based on Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:

If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Marriage Retreat hosted by friends
from St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church
on
October 22-24, 2010
at
Radisson Paper Valley in Appleton, WI

Our facilitators for the weekend are Pastor Jeff Schubert and his wife Judy Schubert from Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartland. Join us in Appleton the fourth weekend in October for a time of relaxation and renewal as we learn more about marriage and ourselves through the eyes of our Lord and Savior. Make time for study and fellowship with your spouse and other sisters and brothers in Christ.

Thank you to everyone who came to his Celebration of Service and made some very yummy food to share at the potluck!

And to all the people who put together a wonderful thank you program for Pastor Knea and his family-the Youth Group and Elders, who put tables up and took them down, set up the meal, cleaned up and washed the dishes, swept the floor and more-Ladies Aid, Journeymen, among others-you are very appreciated!

It was a very great fellowship and thanksgiving day to recognize the blessings we at St. Paul's have with Pastor Knea's ministry.

2010 Dinner Auction was the best ever !!

Over $40,000 was donated !!

Our congregation is blessed to have such generous members, friends, and guests, willing to give of their time, talents and financial contributions.  The monies raised will benefit our church and school.

Over 100 people enjoyed a delightful cocktail hour, with music by students from Lake Country High School, while silently bidding on over 150 items.  The dinner at the Golden Mast was delicious.  As always, the live auction and program was a fun and touching way to cap off the evening.

Women of the Bible:  Leah and Rachel

Friday May 14th 8:00am

The Lombardo Home – please call (414) 241-0609 or wendi@lombardolawoffice.com

These are only a few of the women mentioned in God's Word. In it's pages we learn of their weaknesses and their strengths, their trials and their triumphs. Above all, we see God in His abundant grace forgiving, sustaining, and inspiring His beloved daughters for service in His name.

In this small-group Bible study series, we will look at the lives of only the most familiar women in God's Word. From Eve, the first woman, to those women who helped Jesus' apostles, participants will see God's grace in action as He calls and leads these women in their daily lives. Through their God-given faith and their faith-filled deeds, you will be inspired by these great women of the Bible.

The Bible not only gives us the names of these great women, but also describes their sorrows

and joys, their defeats and victories, their intense private moments and important public

duties. In addition to sharing the thoughts, dreams, words, and deeds of women in the past, the Bible also provides helpful instruction for women of today.

In this series, we cannot learn all there is to know about every great woman of the Bible.

However, as we study God’s Word, we can learn much about ourselves and our gracious

Lord and how He worked in the lives of the great women of the Bible.

On Wednesday evenings during Lent, we will be discussing prayer at Time to Grow. Our first adult Bible study will begin February 24 and will run through March 24. The study takes place from 6:20-7:20 p.m. Children 3 years through 12th grade will continue to meet in age-appropriate classes.

As disciples of Jesus, we are called to live by faith in a life of prayer. If we stop praying we fall asleep spiritually. We may still be spiritually alive, but we become unaware of God's gracious dealings with us. So He does His best to keep us awake and watchful in prayer. In everything that happens to us God is training us to become people of prayer, wakeful people who take Him at His Word and receive from Him His gifts. God is equipping His people who are sure that He withholds nothing good from us and all His creatures.

Some of you may recall the Mission and Ministry Faire which we had at the end of our 40 Days of Purpose Program several years ago. It was a time to publicize the various ministries that were active here at St. Paul’s and to encourage the members to get involved. It is time to do that again! On the weekend of October 10 & 11, we shall have a special guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Ronald Meyer, former President of our South Wisconsin District. He will challenge us in our mission attitude. At the end of each service that weekend, the people of God will be released to go through the Faire which will be set up in the Fellowship Hall, the Gymnasium and the hallway between the two. There will also be displays for Ministries not hosted by St. Paul’s but which benefit St. Paul’s.

Take the time that weekend to get to know what is available for you to be involved with here at St. Paul’s and let the Spirit of Christ guide you to where He wants you to serve.

PRIME TIME - ADULT BIBLE STUDIES

Session I - Begins September 9th

How to Talk Confidently With Your Child About Sex

When is the appropriate time to talk about sex?  What do you say?  Where do you start?  I have to talk to my child about that.  If you have ever thought or said any of these things, this study may be for you.  If you made it through this stage in your life, and either want to help or you wonder if you could have done something different this class may be for you.  As parents, we all need to be the center of this topic in our child’s life.  There are a limited number of materials available at $3 a book.  Please sign up ASAP.

Fit 2 Serve

Have ever wondered if you were fit 2 serve?  Come and find out!  This Bible study opportunity will look into what scripture says about being fit 2 serve.  This program has an available online encouragement program along with a pedometer, study material, and a daily devotional book will also coincide with this study.

Heroes of the Faith

This study will look at the ordinary lives of biblical individuals and how their lives were impacted by God to do His extraordinary work.  As we take a look at what God did for them we can see how God can work with our ordinary lives and do extraordinary things.  Study materials are $5.

The class will be held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30.  We will meet for roughly 14 weeks, depending upon the amount of material we get through during each class.  For us at St. Paul’s, the amount of  material we get through is secondary to the process of understanding why it is God has called us into the faith.  The word used for this, although not used in Scripture, is discipleship.  We could literally go through the   entire Word of God, but not understand that the Word was written so that our lives would be lived in such a way that brings the printed Word alive to those who have not read it or encountered the living Word, Jesus Christ.  Being given faith from God’s perspective means He has invested Himself into our lives for hope of sharing His gifts of grace, mercy and peace with those whom our lives come into contact, all while putting that Word into practice into our own lives.  We look forward to talking about all that God offers us, as you join us for Christianity 101.

Please contact the church office with your name, e-mail address, phone number, and child care needs (if applicable). We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Get a hold of a copy of Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis or grab yours from your home bookshelf and join us for a ChristCare meeting on Sunday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m. We will meet at the Schlomer home. Please click READ MORE below to look over some questions to read before each letter in the story. The creators of a study guide from which we will draw some discussion questions suggest you read one letter a day to get the most out of the book.

[The following is a note from the course writers] In reading and studying The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, it is well to remember that the book is written from the perspective of a demon who is trying to corrupt a Christian. Thus it presents us with a view that paints black as white and white as black. It is key to remember that what is bad for Screwtape (the fictional author of the letters) is good for us. This collection of letters from a demon to a tempter is useful because it examines the pitfalls that get in the way of a Christian's spiritual journey.

This course is arranged in 33 short lessons. We encourage you to read the questions before you read each letter. We think you are in for a great deal of enlightenment and considerable entertainment. For, heavy as the Screwtape Letter's subject matter may be, C.S. Lewis handles the material with an acerbic wit, and humor.

Read, enjoy, contemplate, pray. For those who struggle with time to read, I came across one blog that encouraged people to listen to the audio version of the book as the wacky reverse logic comes across in a really interesting way, so you might try that if you have time in the car or with an Ipod in your ears. Please consider bringing one Bible reference to share that you are drawn to as a result of something in our chunk of reading. God bless, and have a great remainder of the week!

Power of the Spirit,

Jody Jackson & Kyle Swanson,
ChristCare Small Group Ministry

A ChristCare Small Group will meet at the Schlomer home on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. to discuss different dialects of the five love languages of God. Please read Chapter 8 of The Love Languages of God--Learning to Speak New Dialects of Love. It is probably one of the best chapters in this book as it offers great ideas for praise and worship of our wonderful God and Savior within your own primary love language or to expand your ways of expressing love through WORDS OF AFFIRMATION, QUALITY TIME, GIFTS, ACTS OF SERVICE, and PHYSICAL TOUCH. Don't wait until the last minute to read as the chapter is longer than others we have covered (32 pages) but full of thought-provoking ideas!
The heavens declare the glory of the God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight,
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Please use this as a teaching tool to help the youth gain a greater understanding of the subject matter being discussed.  Having the appropriate arrows in their quiver to be able to have an answer when they are being challenged in their faith is very important.  Please use this opportunity for you as a family to gain a better understanding of your faith in light of the interaction of the world we live in.
